N/A Project Space is pleased to announce A Forest, a group exhibition featuring work by Katina Bitsicas, Abelardo Cruz Santiago, Maya Edelman, Francisco echo Eraso, Priscilla Fusco, Patrick Grady, Christy Powers, Rochelle Voyles, and Michael Watson; curated by John Richey.
Using a variety of materials and processes, this diverse collection of artworks call to mind the eerie and unsettling atmosphere of the woods. Documenting and chronicling the natural world with an underlying sense of nostalgia for spaces untouched by technology, this exhibition is an escape from life in overcrowded urban environments. Both a reset and a retreat.
Akin to forest bathing, the work in this show seeps into the viewer – pushing aside any theoretical knowledge of the natural world gleaned from books, movies, and the internet and creates a lived experience. Something unknown that is a little exciting, but also scary and dark. A Forest calls on all its inhabitants; moths, deer, rodents, and birds. Reaching out to connect all extraterrestrials and mystical creatures to the very real terrain shaped by everyday magic.
The exhibition features artwork in a variety of media including painting, ceramic, textile-based work, photography, animation, found object sculpture and monumental outdoor video installation.
An opening reception will be held on Saturday, April 11th between 6-9pm. The exhibition will be on view through Sunday, May 3rd by appointment.
